A Florida man convicted in one of a series of suspected killings that became known as the "Hog Trail Murders" in the 1990s was put to death Thursday, becoming the state's 15th person executed this year.

Daniel Owen Conahan Jr., 72, also known as the "Hog Trail Killer," was put to death Thursday by lethal injection at Florida State Prison. He is the 15th person to be executed by the state of Florida in 2026, by far the most in the United States.

Daniel Conahan Jr., 72, was sentenced to death for the April 1996 killing of Richard Montgomery. The victim was found in a wooded area in Charlotte County, Florida, which was described as what appeared to be a dumping area that contained a lot of trash.
